On November 4, 2019, the Monte Vista High School Marching Band traveled to Grand Junction, Colorado to compete at the CBA State Marching Band Championships with their show titled, “Off the Rails”. The Pirate Marching Band, went into the competition ranked 2nd in the state in class 1a (59.65), just one point under the leading school, Florence (60.75). After their semi-finals performance, the PMB kept their 2nd place standing with a new score of 64.35, still one point under Florence with a score of 65.20. After the PMB and all other competing classes finished their finals performances, the 12 remaining bands in 1a 2a and 3a were led onto the field for the awards ceremony. High Caption awards are presented to the bands with the highest scores in Music Performance, Visual Performance and General Effect. Monte Vista and Florence tied in “High Music Performance” with a score of 13.25. Monte Vista then receives the awards for “High Visual Performance” (13.45) and “High General Effect” (40.70). After adding up all the caption awards, the PMB was awarded the CBA Class 1a State Champions with an impressive score of 67.40. The MVHS Marching Band now holds 17 State Titles ranging from class 1a-3a. Once again, Congratulations to this years Champions.
